The Uniform Stylist was approached by Hotelier Glenn Piper to design uniforms that captured the vintage surf vibe of the iconic Hotel (originally The Harbord Beach Hotel) so that the new staff wardrobe blended seamlessly with the sun-bleached, sophisticated palette of the contemporary refurbishment. Classic, urban-style hospitality uniforms weren’t a good fit for either the laidback bar or more refined Balsa restaurant.
We were provided with the opportunity to create unique uniform designs that complemented the new direction in time for the launch December 2020. The collection includes stripe linen blend shirts and knee length sage cotton canvas aprons to be worn in the restaurant. With two shirt styles for staff to choose from, they could be worn a variety of ways, with a special cut with a tie front for women. The retro surf print T with stripes and branding paired with dark chocolate aprons provide a look that is truly unique to this hotel, and no other.
The final result – co-ordinated outfits with a ‘youthful spirit’ vibe that the HH staff love to wear. The Harbord Hotel uniform has caught the eye of several other bayside venues, as we’re often asked to create a similar design concept. But there is only one Harbord Hotel, and everything about it, including their uniforms – is unique.
